There are a wide variety of granitic host rocks on the Gold Creek 20 acre lode claims, including granite, granodiorite, tonalite, quartz diorite, diorite, and gabbro. These rocks commonly are characterized by steep, north-striking foliation. From what we have seen the diorite appears to be the best host.
Our prospecting efforts in this area reveal copper, silver, and gold-rich pockets and veins.
Most of the southern portion of each claim is rather brushy making it difficult to see these veins until you are just about standing on them. We consider that a huge plus and the main reason why they are still in place.
If you are seeking a perfect spot to get away from the city rat race with thieves, looters, etc. this area will provide you with safety as far as a rifle bullet will carry.
This area will also provide you with gem-quality copper minerals, azurite, malachite, chrysocolla, and gold-rich specimens.
We have found some flakes panning a few areas along the main creek but no nuggets yet.
The Gold Creek lodes consist of four 20 acre unpatented lode claims located in Yavapai County, Arizona.
The claims are situated in a northerly direction about 50 air miles from downtown Phoenix and about 15 air miles northeast from our office in Black Canyon City.
Elevations on the claims average about 4300 ft and make it a perfect spot to escape the summer desert heat.
Year-round access is good for most any two-wheel-drive vehicle except for a few days of rainy weather or a rare snowfall. The road runs through the northern portion of each claim and there are numerous pullouts and campsites large enough to accommodate a full-size RV on and off of the claims.
There is a large spring approximately one-half mile southeast of the claims that provides year around water. The spring-fed creek runs through the northern portion of each claim just south of the access road. Often there are knee-deep pools scoured out down to bedrock, but these pool locations change yearly. The water is a rare sight on Arizona mining claims and these claims provide water for camp use and cleanup for small-scale mining operations. Even on a very dry year, all one has to do is scoop away some sand down to bedrock and wait a few minutes for a small pool to fill.
