The Nugget Gulch claim group is located in a valley of gold bearing Yavapai schist, the basement rock that strikes well over 80 miles in a north-south direction and is several miles or more in width. Much of the schist is covered with alluvium and the placer gold is generally found under the alluvium and in the cracks, fractures, and crevices of the schist host rock. In our testing, we recovered fines, flakes and pickers of placer gold in the alluvium above the bedrock and a few small nuggets in fractured bedrock.
Gold bearing narrow quartz veins traverse the schist in this entire area and our testing recovered fine gold when samples of quartz was pulverized minus 80 mesh and ran through our Desert Fox Gold Wheel.- The Nugget Gulch claim group consists of four 20.66 acre unpatented lode gold claims located in Yavapai County about 55 miles north-northwest of Phoenix. The nearest full-service town is Black Canyon City, approximately 14 miles to the south on Hwy 17. Black Canyon City has restaurants, bars, groceries, gas, propane and numerous RV parks.
Access to the claims is good via a narrow dirt road that traverses all 4 claims with a high centered 2 wd.
The claims are between 3000-3300 feet in elevation and reasonably flat, traversed by several dry desert washes. Placer gold has been recovered in the washes, gulches and higher ground. The claim group by road is approximately 1200 feet west of the Bumblebee-Crown King road.
The nearest water is east of the main road about 1800 feet from the claims at a well. You might get permission for water from the local rancher if you don't camp near or abuse his water situation.
There are numerous level areas to park an RV or travel trailer just off of the main road. But before attempting to tow a trailer or take a RV into the claims you might check the road first as road conditions change with each rain storm.
